Uvwie Day Festival

About the festival

A day to celebrate the culture and heritage of ancient Uvwie, and to honour the throne.

The festival was created to showcase the heritage of ancient Uvwie. It gives Uvwie people a day to celebrate their culture and heritage, and to connect with each other for community development and cultural awareness.

It is held every 26th of December at Urhobo College Field, and it brings together all the Etche (communities) of the Uvwie Kingdom.

To open the celebration, the King and his council of chiefs walk around the grounds and visit each community under its tent. Then the festival begins: music, cultural dance and displays, and masquerade performances in the ancient Uvwie tradition.
